What is Prednisone?
This is an oral medication that reduces inflammation in the body and causes suppression of the immune system when needed.
What are the benefits of Prednisone?
Highly effective. Multiple strengths available. Oral doses can be personalized to fit your individual pet's needs.
How is this medication given?
It is imperative that you give this medication exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. It is often recommended to start at a higher dose and decrease the dose gradually. Give Prednisone by mouth (orally). Try to give with food in order to avoid stomach upset. Never stop this medication abruptly unless your veterinarian instructs you to do so. Only give this Prednisone to the pet it has been prescribed for. Contact your veterinarian if you have questions about how to use this medication properly.
How does this medication work?
Prednisone can target almost every body system as necessary. Prednisone is a corticosteroid medication that blocks the inflammatory pathways and ultimately the production of substances that trigger allergies and inflammation. At higher doses, Prednisone can cause suppression of the immune system by decreasing the number of cells necessary for a proper immune response.
What results can I expect?
Inflammation and allergies should subside within several days when Prednisone is used. Cancers and autoimmune diseases are more difficult to treat and results may take longer. If medication is stopped abruptly, symptoms can return or worsen.
